The Occupy Wall Street movement has had my silent support ever since first I heard about the ever-growing leaderless movement. I can't stay on the sidelines any longer because this story hits close to home; probably because it involves someone who helped make two of my favorite people in the world. This above video was taken at the Occupy Bloomington protest on October 14. The below text was written by the song's author, Ben Fowler, and explains the context of the song contained above. (Thanks to Ben for allowing me to repost this):
Here is a song I wrote last year about a difficult financial situation my family has been in. It's a protest song toward Chase Bank.
I've been supporting my mother financially for a few years, after a car accident she suffered which has left her unable to work.
One month last year, after I struggled to get the money together for her mortgage, Chase garnished her 5/3 bank account. This means they monitored her account, and as soon as a significant amount of money was deposited, they took it, as payment for a debt owed to them. There was nothing her bank could do about it.
This was a legal mugging, and every major bank does this every day. I'm hoping this song resonates with others whose struggles have been multiplied by the policies of major banks. And I hope it might inspire you to move your money into local credit unions and out of these financial behemoths.
